Running wild: going the distance for non-profits

Ashley Goode, our public relations specialist, has decided to run in the Austin Half Marathon. The race, which is in conjunction with the Austin Marathon, will take place on Feb. 20, 2011.

Although she has months until she needs to begin serious training, Goode has begun a regiment of running on the Hike-and-Bike Trail around Lady Bird Lake. She has started out with the 3.2-mile loop to get acclimated to running long distances again. It has become a little bit more of a challenge for her in the past week or so with the recent heat wave.

“I figure if I can run three miles in humid, 95-degree weather then I can definitely run 13.1 during the mild Texas winter,” said Goode. “I hate to be super cliche, but what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger!”

The slogan for the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon is “26 for 26″ because the money raised from participants will benefit 26 Central Texas non-profit organizations. This year is the 20th anniversary of the race, and organizers hope to reach their goal of 20,000 runners.
